Appointments can be booked online via this website by clicking the “Book Now” tab at the top of this page. Alternatively, appointments can be booked via phone by calling 07305 240972. If voicemail is reached please leave a message and you’ll be called back as soon as possible. All appointments require a non-refundable £20 deposit which is paid upon booking. The remaining £50 will only be charged if there is wax identified at your appointment which needs removing.

Appointments are often available to book online for Saturday mornings. Evening ear wax removal appointments can be available for those who live locally to Rownhams, Southampton - Rownhams and Nursling, North Baddesley, Romsey, Totton, Lordshill, Millbrook, Chandlers Ford. At Wessex Ear Care we have seen the best results when patients have used olive oil drops before their ear wax removal appointment. Please make sure olive oil is used in the 3 days leading up to your appointment. The drops help to soften the wax and often allow it to be more easily removed from the ear. Earol is a recommended olive oil spray. Please do not put drops in your ear if you have a perforation.

Appointments can be paid for by card or cash. Nicola carries a card machine around with her. If you’d prefer to pay via bank transfer please email nicolamiller@wessexearcare.co.uk

Your appointment will last for approximately 45 minutes. This will give time to discuss the consent form, assess your ear to decide on the appropriate ear wax removal method for you, as well as set up and pack away the equipment. Sometimes having ear wax removed can make you feel dizzy, this is perfectly normal and your appointment time will allow for this to settle down. During the COVID-19 pandemic you may be contacted before your appointment to complete your medical history if this hasn’t already been completed online when booking.

For a small number of you there may be difficulty booking an appointment. Please ensure all details entered are correct. There may be small bits of wax left in your ear canal once the main block of wax has been removed. This small amount is completely healthy and normal to remain in your ear. You will be able to view this on the laptop after wax removal has finished.

Ear wax removal does not hurt. If you’ve not had ear wax removal before then it may feel like a different sensation. The procedure will be explained to you at your appointment and if at any time during ear wax removal you would like to pause your audiologist will be more than happy to do so.

All appointments with Wessex Ear Care are offered a free second appointment if the wax cannot be removed during the first attempt. Please make sure olive oil is used in the 3 days leading up to your appointment (unless you have a perforated ear drum). If a third appointment is needed this will be charged at the full amount.

There is currently no ear clinic in Southampton for Wessex Ear Clinic. At the moment Wessex Ear Care is a mobile ear wax removal service only. All ear wax removal appointments are home visits which means ear wax removal can be carried out in the comfort of your own home.

At present unfortunately ear wax removal is only carried out on those who are 18 years or older. Please contact your GP should you have any concerns with your child’s ears.

Ear syringing used to be carried out frequently at GP surgeries. Ear syringing is no longer performed and the safer alternative is water irrigation. Nicola at Wessex Ear Care is fully trained to carry out water irrigation
